Scrappy Saturday- Road Trip

Today's Scrappy pages are from a little road trip hubs and I took two summers ago.  We didn't go far...just over the mountain to Adams County (near Gettysburg.)  We spent a beautiful sunny day driving around with no agenda, just soaking up the beautiful scenery and stopping at random places.

Road Trip-Niagara Falls

Before I forget.......HAPPY AUTUMN!!! This is my favorite season. Love the sights and smells and feel of this wonderful season of change.

Okay, onto other stuff and the purpose of this post~

The Tuesday before Labor Day my mom had shoulder surgery. Starting to feel a bit better, and unable to do much of anything with her right arm (of coarse she's right handed), we decided to take advantage of the situation.....Make lemonade out of lemons you might say! So we piled into their 15 passenger van and headed north to Niagara Falls and the Finger Lakes on a 3 day ROAD TRIP.

Since our return, I've been working on digi-scrapping all the photos I took. And I took a lot! So here's just a sneak peak of the progress. Remember, you can click on the pictures to enlarge them. These photos are of the Falls taken from the US side. In a future post, I'll share the photos taken from the Canadian side, a much better view of the Falls. So stay tuned!

ROAD TRIP-LANCASTER COUNTY

Hubs and I recently took a road trip. We decided a weekend away for a little R&R was in order. We had previously planned to go to the in-law's beach house for a long weekend to do a little fishing and catch a few rays. But at the last minute, we changed the game plan and headed east, east to Lancaster County (PA) on a little road trip. The only concrete plan we had was to see the play Joseph at Sight and Sound, an incredible Christian Theater.

FIRST STOP

The Sight and Sound Millennium Theater is a beautiful facility on a serene setting. In the background of this photo is the Hershey Farm where beautiful gardens abound.

Whats good for the goose is good for the gander!

The show was fan-tab-u-lous!!!!!!!

The following day was snoop day. We just set out from the hotel and went snooping. First stop.............Bird in Hand Farmers Market. This is an indoor market with many vendors, everything from food to clothing.

Hubs had to sample some sticky buns..mmmm! There were lots of samples!

Souvenir Anyone??

Then............ across the road to the Peddlers Cottage. A very neat store that didn't seem to have an end. It was filled with many sweet finds both old and new, and new that looked old. It was hard to tell the difference!

We ended up at the Hardware store next door (not pictured) that was also never ending. From the Bird in Hand Hardware store, you could enter the Bird in Hand Antique store. I did manage to find something in the antique store to bring home with me. But I'll save that for another post.

Okay, I admit it....I enjoy a good glass of wine. (Hmmm, maybe I'll stop right now and pour me a glass. ) Anywho.......... we found our way to the Mount Hope Winery. And yes, I did get a souvenir there!

More country scenery....a reminder of a SIMPLER time.

And we just couldn't resist trekking through the sweetest place on earth...........HERSHEY! We are hoping to go back to Hershey one day very soon to take our little Jack to the zoo. Oh, and in case you didn't know, the street lamps of Hershey are shaped like Hershey Kisses- some are wrapped, and some are not.

Over the Mountains Through Orchards and Vineyards

We took a drive on Friday in the convertible, with the top down of course. It was a gorgeous day. A hint of fall was in the air. We had no agenda for the day except to enjoy the day together. We kicked our work lists to the curb and set out on our journey.

We live in a valley between 2 mountains. So we decided to begin by heading over the mountain. Nestled at the bottom on otherside is a very famous little town surrounded by fruit orchards, rolling hills and few vineyards that are beginning to emerge. This area is also drenched in American History. You may have heard of it; you may have visited this quaint little town we call Gettysburg.

Our

first stop, as always, was brunch. We made a quick stop at a friendly little restaurant all decked out in red and blue. So patriotic!

For most folks, a trip to Gettysburg would mean a tour of the Battlefield and the many museums that surround it. But we have been there, done that. And though we have a deep appreciation for the Battlefield and all it represents, this day was more about just relaxing and enjoying the day and the scenery as we meandered around Adams County, with camera in tow. I hope you enjoy the photos of our journey.

Our first stop was a well known round barn. It is used as a fruit and vegetable stand. It was stocked with autumn goods. But it primarily housed gift items. The barn is owned and operated by Knouse Foods. You may know them as the Lucky Leaf people.

We walked upstairs to see the "bones" of the barn. It appears they hold special events up there such as weddings.

Inside the silo was an adorable kiddie room.

Across from the barn was one of the new vineyards cropping up around Adams County. So we decided to check it out. You can view the grapes on the way up the hill to the tasting room.

From the top, there was a 360 degree view that was just gorgeous!

Can't you just imagine sharing some wine from this terrace, with this view!?

We didn't take any wine home. But what we did take home was the memory of a relaxing day, etched in our minds. And oh, we did stop at another fruit stand and purchased nectarines, apples and cider...mmmmm!
