T'is the Season for COOKIES!

So it's the season for cookie baking.
And like all households,
we have our favorites.

I'll confess that these buckeyes are my all time favorite!

But each year I try to select the cookies that
are of  different colors, tastes, and textures
and cookies that will create a pretty platter
 for serving family and friends
 and giving as gifts.

Today, I want to share just one unique recipe.
I got this from an old friend who always made
it sound like the recipe was some kind
 of  a family secret.
 But today,

THE CAT'S OUT OF THE BAG!

This is a molasses ginger cookie,
shaped like a banana...
hence the name

Banana Gingers

The recipe is not really that much of a secret.

It's the pan they are baked in that is the biggest secret!

My tricky husband has a metal bender
so he made me my own cookie sheet
 for creating these little jewels.

The cookies are dropped by tablespoons
 and as they puff up,
they take on the shape of a banana.

Once they cookies are baked they are
rolled in powdered sugar.

 Beautiful!

And tasty too!

Here's the recipe....

Banana Gingers

1 cup brown sugar
1 cup molasses
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup shortening
1 egg
2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp ginger
1 tsp baking soda
4 cup flour
1 tsp vanilla

Mix shortening and sugar,  Blend wet ingredients.  Add dry ingredients.  Drop by teaspoons and bake at 375 degrees for 8 minutes.  Roll in 10x.

Have a great day!

Savoring the Season

Autumn Greetings!

It's hard to believe that it is officially fall.
But the signs are here my friends...

 Personally, I love fall.
It is my favorite season-for sure!
But I must admit that I'm not in a hurry to say good bye to my summer flowers.
They are still beautiful....

and it will be sad to see them go...

But I know the colors of Autumn will be arriving soon!
I love the colors of fall, and I love the cool, crisp autumn air.

I also love to stalk other blogs to see the beautiful autumn decorations of all of you creative fellow bloggers.  I can't think of a better way to get inspired to break out the goods and get decorating.

Since you all have inspired me,
I thought I'd share some autumn inspiration with you!

Grab a cup of coffee, tea or perhaps some yummy apple cider, and check out my autumn decor.

I try not to get too crazy with the decorations because I know who has to dismantle all this stuff to prepare for the next holiday.
The good news is that most of it is natural and can be tossed in the field at the end of the season.

Let's get started outside....

This is the view as you walk out the front door.  See what I mean about not wanting to say goodbye to my flowers?  They make my front yard look so happy!!

An old window frame, bittersweet, antlers, turkey feathers, burlap, and Spanish moss

I adore burlap!

Sign made using the Cricut

Inside....

This arrangement may need some explaining...this is an old glass chicken waterer that I change up according to the season. On either side is a "spring" candle holder.  The rooster motiff was made with the Cricut.

I have to confess .....
that even though I love the colors of fall,
and all the lovely decorations...
what I love the most is....
the smells wafting from my oven.

I love all things
apple,
pumpkin,
pear,
 and of course
cinnamon!

Around here, it's a known fact that

Pie really does fix everything!

I can assure you the grandkids agree with me that pie fixes everything!!

Summer Update

Wow!  It appears it has been several weeks since my last post.  Time sure does fly by quickly, doesn't it?

But like many of you, I'm super busy.  Summer seems to bring a load of extra work.  You know what I'm talking about.....grass mowing and weed pulling....

and there's gardening to be done....

and with that,
there's the canning and the freezing of nature's bounty.

are so easy to make

Oh, and we can't forget all those patriotic celebrations...

or all the backyard fun that summertime brings....

Jack LOVES the hose!

Rhea enjoying Great Grandma's pool

Grandmummies sweet boy

Josie gave my mom's Rottie a run for her money!

And like many you..
we have been paralyzed  by sweltering heat.
Everyone is running for cover....
trying to find somewhere....
anywhere...to cool off!

It has been SO HOT........

this is where you say, "How hot is it?"

It's has been so hot....

the chickie girls had no choice but to go SWIMMING!

Watching a chicken pant is pretty disturbing.......

So I did the only thing I could think of to do...and filled up the kiddie pool.  I guess now I'll have to buy the grand kids a new one!

Until next time my friends....

Think
COOL
thoughts!

Strawberries...

One of my favorite things about this time of year is
Strawberries!

And this year
we had LOTS of
Strawberries!!

Picking strawberries was a
Family Affair.....

Take a look...

My daughter stopped by to pick her bucket full.
Jack helped....well sort of...

Both the grandkids sampled the
PURE GOODNESS....

Isn't she a doll?
Pappy thinks so!!

Love this picture of the "strawberry handoff"

Forget the bucket, it goes straight in his mouth!

All good things must come to an end:(

But don't you leave before I share one of my favorite shortcake recipes.
It's the kind of cake you make,
ONLY
if you know all of it will be eaten in one sitting.

Here's the recipe..
Makes you want to go whip up a strawberry shortcake and invite your friends or family over, huh?....
