CH CH Changes

It has been several months since I last posted on this blog.
It feels so good to actually have the time to sit before the screen of my laptop and get typing.
So much has been happening!
There have been many changes and more changes to come!
Allow me to catch you up if I may…

Let’s back up to the month of May if we could…
In the beginning of May, we were able to take a lovely, and much needed vacation. I’ll share more about that in a future post.

Any guesses where we went on vacation??

By early June, my babysitting responsibilities for the grandkids were coming to an end.
 (Their mama is a teacher)

AND our garden was coming along nicely.

But sometime in June, hubby completed his current construction project.
(He’s a construction manager)

He had been on this current project, a hospital, for nearly 10 years.
As soon as one phase would be completed, they would continue on to the next phase and the next……well you get the picture.

As this project was drawing to a close, he learned his next assignment would be iin Maryland, outside Washington D.C.

And YES, the land of liberals!
We live in Pennsylvania.
Ahh, the serenity of our neck of the woods...

So while his new assignment is not that far away, it is too far to commute on a daily basis.

So being the gypsies we are, we have packed up a few of our possessions, and headed to Maryland.                                                                                                                                                                        Talk about being a square peg in a round hole!

We have not sold our home.  In fact, we will probably be able to go home most weekends…..to mow grass, manage the garden

and of course, love on our little ones.

Unfortunately, in this process, I had to re-home the girls.  L

And my country dog has become a city dog.

Josie, waiting patiently at the door of
our tiny apartment to go for her next walk.

I don’t think she’s minded though, because she gets walked often.
I’m sure as soon as she gets home, she will head to the field to do some ground hog hunting!

So what does a simple country girl blog about when she is surrounded by city life?

Well, we shall see..

LOOKING AHEAD
As if we haven't had enough change...
There are more changes coming…

In September, we have a wedding to look forward to.
My baby boy is getting married.

Okay, so he’s not a baby, he’s 28.
But nonetheless, he’s my baby and he’s gettin’ hitched.

And we are looking forward to the addition of a new daughter as well as a bridal shower coming up soon.  More about that later!

AND can I get a drum roll please……

We are going to be grandparents again!
That’s right.  Jack and Rhea will be getting another brother or sister for Christmas.
When asked if they wanted a girl or a boy,
 Jack said "a boy,"

and of course Rhea said "a girl."

So good ol’ Jack told his sister that he could have a brother and she could have a sister.  I’m afraid someone is going to be disappointed!  Kids say the funniest things don’t they?

So there you have it!
Lots of Changes… Lots to look forward to..

And plenty of reasons to be grateful
and to trust in
and lean on
the goodness of our God!

Happy Birthday Rhea!

We celebrated our granddaughter's birthday last weekend.
 She turned one.
It was a simple party with family.
The weather was perfect.
The hot dogs over the campfire...the marshmallows, cake and cookies...they were all perfect too!

This child is precious...
take a look-see.
I'm sure you'll agree!

Gotta love that bib too!

Big brother Jack enjoyed himself as well....
He's precious too...
I'm not biased or anything...

It won't be long until we'll be celebrating his birthday.  He's gonna be 3.  Oh how fast they grow.

My daughter snapped this pic of my girl and me.

(I stole it from her blog..

I sure hope that as she grows up, she will feel the same way about me, that I feel about my grandmother.  I loved her sooo much!  Still do.
She's in heaven now, but is sorely missed.
It is my hope that this grandma will also be missed... one day....

Not anytime soon though!!

Projects that have been keeping me from blogging...Project # 7 Hanging with the Grandkids!

Okay, I know what you're thinking....
Hanging out with the grandkids is
 NOT a PROJECT!

Well, maybe not...
But they do keep me extremely busy!!

I spend at least 2 days a week caring for them while their mama teaches Cyber School.
Sometimes I go to their house
and other times they come to the old homestead.

It doesn't matter where we are,
there is always an opportunity to capture some cute  photos.....
And I take LOTS of pictures....
Every day is a new
Photo Shoot.
Take a look....

Lunch on Deck..

Pap Pap taught the boy to put applesauce on his bread ;)
Monkey see, Monkey do!

H-A-P-P-Y!

He loves to watch Giggle Bellies music videos on You Tube.
Click here to view our favorite video!

Both babes enjoy taking a trip to the chicken yard.  Rhea can even say Bak Bak Bak!

MUCK BOOTS-LOVE!!

This boy loves to explore......

Is she not the cutest little thing?!!?!
I'm not partial or anything ;)

Pap Pap gave Jack a lesson on bee pollination.  He listened very intently.  Now every time we stroll around the yard he pulls a flower off the wysteria vine, pulls out the stamen and proceeds to tell me about bees.  It's very cute.  But then, isn't everything our grandbabies do, cute!?

If you want to see more pictures of this kind of cuteness you can click here to view my pictures on Facebook.  While you're there,
 feel free to friend me!!

Now I have to go, because I have a lot of scrapbooking to do!
 So stay tuned for some

Grandma's Fresh Apple cake

I know it's not apple season yet.  But this was too good to save.....

Several years ago, I gathered together my mother's recipes and scanned them into my computer, making her a recipe book of all her favorite recipes.  I kept all the original recipes for myself and gave her the compilation of recipes I had created.

The other day I was pleasantly surprised when I came across the collection of recipes.  I had to look through them again to see if there was anything I was wanting to bake, make, cook or create in my own kitchen.

I found several recipes of interest.  But this recipe is the one that popped out at me!  It was one of my Grandmother's favorite recipes written in her own handwriting. So I decided to give it a try.

This Fresh Apple Cake is written in my grandma's handwriting
(the title is in my mom's writing)

It was a big hit!

Fresh Apple Cake

1-1/2 cups oil
3 eggs
2 cups sugar
2 tsp vanilla
3 cups flour
1-1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
Beat these 7 ing together and then add:
1 cup chopped nuts
1 cup coconut
3 cups chopped apples

Bake in a tube pan  ( I used a regular cake pan) sprayed with Pam or other non stick spray.

Bake 1-1/2 hours at 350.

Icing
1 stick of butter
1 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. milk
(I added a pinch of cinnamon)

Boil for 2-1/2 minutes.  Pour over hot cake.  Leave cake in pan until cold.  Place on serving dish.

We of course just ate the cake from  the cake dish.

Pour (and spread) icing over cake

Enjoy

My Grandma.....miss you muchly!
